Company profile
Farmer Johns has been established in the Barossa Valley for over 20 years. The original business was very much focussed on animal health and broadacre farming. However, over the course of time and as the Barossa's viticulture industry grew and expanded rapidly throughout the 1990s, our store expanded signicantly to both cater for the expanded product range and cope with the growing volume of product particularly from the viticulture industry.
Our store now offers a complete product range servicing all primary inputs in the vast range of crops grown locally. This product offering is backed up by an experienced sales and agronomy team offering advice to our large client base.
Our market area now covers a vast segment of the cropping, pasture and horticulture in the Barossa Valley, Northern Adelaide Hills, Lower Mid North and Murraylands - some of the most reliable rainfall country in South Australia.
A growing portion of our business is transacted on a fee-for-service basis utilising the various crop monitoring packages offered. Many of our clients have taken the view that this service is of particular value to their farm enterprise profitability. Our agronomy advisers recognise that the advice they give needs to be relevant - they are local and know the area intimately.
Farmer Johns is a member of the national retail supply business group IHD Pty Ltd. Collectively IHD members account for over $1 billion in primary farm inputs across Australia. This large turnover gives all member stores - including Farmer Johns - a competitive position with key suppliers in all crop segments ,meaning compounded profit opportunities passed onto farmer clients.
